For three years, from the beginning of 2007 to the end of 2009, I was publisher and editor of Edible Chesapeake, after I purchased it from its previous owners. I was born in Washington, DC, and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1981, and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1985. I spent more than five years as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State, serving in Mexico City, Mexico, and Istanbul, Turkey. Making a break with consular life, I moved to Houston, Texas in 1990, where a decade-long career in public relations unfolded. In my final year in Houston, my public relations experience and diplomatic service came together as I was tapped for the position of deputy director of protocol for the City of Houston.
Houston is also where I met my husband, Damon, and gave birth to my two little Texans, Catherine and Louis. We all now live in University Park, Maryland, less than a mile from my parents, and we anticipate having Damon's mom living with us full-time in the near future. We're a local family enjoying local food!
