We started the Local Mix newsletter after we challenged ourselves (and our families) to eat solely local food for one month in August 2005, which we chronicled in an article published online by MotherEarthNews.com and in Ohio-based Farming Magazine. We were already "eating local" before we wrote the article, but we gathered more and more sources. Soon, friends and neighbors began to ask us where to get the best local food, and how we prepared it. Many people were intrigued by the possibilities and had concrete questions.

Local Mix gives us a way to share all the new information that keeps pouring in from others exploring the local food scene, from producers, and from our own research. We find local food to be more and more exciting all the time. We hope Local Mix helps keep you "in the know" about our thriving local food community.

Friends and family enjoyed treats made with local flour at a neighborhood gathering to talk about local food in August 2006. The discussion ultimately spurred us to start the Local Mix email newsletter.
