Why should I buy local food?

First and foremost, because it is delicious! Fruits and veggies, picked ripe, are bursting with flavor, and fresh local eggs, meat and dairy products taste fantastic too. But there are many more reasons to "go local.” Fresh, local produce has a higher nutrient content than typical store-bought produce because it hasn’t been lying around in a truck or a warehouse. Local meat, eggs and dairy products likely come from small farms where the animals were roaming on pastures, not standing in cramped indoor paddocks. You can sample unusual regional varieties and special produce that don’t ship well. You can connect to the land and farmers, strengthening the fabric of your community, supporting your local economy, and promoting local jobs. By visiting farms and talking to growers and producers, you can also judge quality and standards yourself.
